Structural Engineer – Timber Building Simulations

Hilti Corporation
Schaan

What's the role?

You contribute to the development of timber construction solutions for the future. With your knowledge of structural behavior of buildings and with the help of computational simulation, you evaluate the relevant load paths and derive requirements for structural connections. You help optimize our solutions and have a direct impact on our future products.

Who is Hilti?

For the sixth time in the past 11 years, Hilti has been named one of the best employers by Great Place to Work. A family-established company, we are over 32,000 employees based in 120 international locations. At Hilti, we provide leading-edge tools, technologies, software, and services for the global construction industry and beyond. Our strong customer relationships make us a partner on the job site, creating solutions that build a better future. We invest a substantial amount of our annual profit to the Hilti Foundation, which focuses on initiatives that empower people to live independently and autonomously, contribute to building stronger societies, and create networks of competent partners to achieve sustainable and scalable impact.

What does the role involve?

By joining HILTI’s Corporate Research and Technology, you will work closely with development and test engineers to bring to life innovative products in an agile process. You examine whole buildings virtually and analyze their behavior, both on a global building scale and a detailed finite element level.
You also share your ideas on the applied numerical methods and how to enhance them. You apply commercial structural and FEM simulation software in daily use and implement optimization workflows with tools like Python or Matlab.

We invest more than 5% of our turnover every year in exploring new solutions in diamond systems, measuring tools, firestops, anchors and other fastening systems.

What do we offer?

Joining our headquarters in Schaan, Nendeln, or Buchs connects you with a diverse community of over 2,100 colleagues from 70 nationalities in a region where Liechtenstein, Austria, and Switzerland intersect. Our employee groups actively support causes like female empowerment and the LGBTQ+ community and offer leisure activities like mountain biking and tennis. We also provide opportunities for community engagement both locally and internationally. Benefits at our headquarters include shared e-bikes, an on-site gym, dining options, learning opportunities, financial guidance, child care, and relocation support.

What you need is:

  • Completed Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant fields
  • Theoretical background in numerical simulation methods
  • Professional experience with structural design of buildings and building modelling (e.g. Dlubal RFEM)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork mindset
  • Fluent English skills

Why should you apply?

You are someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies, where a job title is not considered a final destination but the starting point.

Does this sound like you? We look forward to your application! For further questions, please feel free to contact the hiring manager Ralph Lohner (Head of Computational Engineering), or Frances Bruno (Talent Acquisition Business Partner).
*For non-EU / EFTA citizens: Please state your eligibility status to work in Switzerland / Liechtenstein and note that if you do not own a valid Swiss / Liechtenstein work permit, Hilti cannot guarantee your final employment due to authority regulations.
